[Food]桃花源小廚Tim's Kitchen-2012 Valentine's day dinner!

話說本著師奶仔心態我是極不願意被餐廳於大時大節生劏的。(況且我現在還是不明白情人節的意義有多重,根本就是一個讓女性的attention seeking心態無限量給放大的時機。要對情人好嘛,就不只是那一天啦。)但鑑於我都是一個凡夫俗女,循例都是要來一個情人節晚餐。這可是我跟林少第一次外出用餐的情人節!之前在英國都是在家煮飯仔度過。

As usual I dislike my purse/ Mr Lam's wallet being 'raped' during festivals. However as a normal human being I still have to celebrate Valentine's day with a meal. This year is the first time ever we spent Valentine's day at a restaurant since the previous years I had been our cook (and it was goooood)

又話說我倆去了很好吃的勝手後(我們很愛勝手,有機會要寫一寫。)都對它家的另外一家店-蟹膳非常有興趣。但…它超貴的啦。晚餐人均要一千塊呢。那我就提意趁情人節才去,起碼是一個較特別的日子,花錢也有個名目吧。當我打去問它家情人節的價錢後我就默默的告訴林少我們都是下年儲錢後才吃吧…人均要$1600呢…又碰巧我們的吃貨朋友剛吃了桃花源,林少看見蟹鉗的照片後整個迷上。所以橫豎都要吃,就去桃花源吧,還不用吃套餐呢!

Since we both have fallen in love with Katte ShabuShabua, we are really interested with its sister restaurant- Kanizen (a restaurant specialises in crab cuisine) but it is REALLY pricy, about $1000HKD per head for dinner. Since its valentine's I suggested we should make a visit to Kanizen so we can spend the money with a more valid reason. BUT when I found out its Valentine's dinner costed $1600HKD per head, I immediately turned down my idea. And then C has been saying that he wants to go to Tim's Kitchen after seeing photos on facebook, so we decided to go to Tim's Kitchen instead. (and no set menu needed too!)

餐廳位於上環近中環段的海味街,挺好找。我們訂了6:30pm,到時只有另外一檯人,但之後很快就坐滿了,應該沒有訂位都很難有機會walk-in吧。



冷盤 Appetizer:冰鎮鵝肉卷 Chilled Marinated Goose Meat Roll



我是很喜歡吃鵝的,而腐皮也是我愛的食物,所以一看到這個我就想要!一碟六件,剛好可以將整件放進口裡,所以不必擔心食相。除了鵝肉,還有些蘿蔔絲吧。有些淡淡的煙燻味,很特別;蔬菜絲也減低了鵝肉的肥膩感。但我覺得還好,可能我當時肚子還沒有完全康復,冷的食物就不是很對味。但林少大讚這碟呢。

I love goose and tofu-skin, so this was an immediate choice when I browsed through the web. One piece fits right in the mouth so it's easy to eat. Apart from goose it has some carrot slices in it too so its quite light actually. It has some sort of smokey taste which is quite special. However as I was still recovering



主菜:冬瓜蒸原隻鮮蟹鉗 Steamed Whole Fresh Crab Claw with Winter Melon 


要預早訂的一道菜,也是名菜之一。好吃得不得了,蟹鉗極之鮮甜,冬瓜也是非常入味!就是這種清淡的煮法才顯得蟹肉的鮮甜。當然它的啖啖肉是十分適合懶人。極推!

I asked C whether he had pre-ordered this dish on the day since I was really really interested, afterall this is one of their most famous dishes. And it did not disappoint. the tender and sweet crabmeat was perfectly accompanied by the winter melon. I think this is perfect for lazy ppl (i.e. boys) since you do not have to get your hands dirty to enjoy the crab!


玻璃明蝦球 Crystal King Prawn



很美的一道菜。當然這樣的一隻蝦索價是很昂貴…但也是非常好吃。彈牙、鮮甜、爽。沒有多餘的調味,就簡簡單單的煮這蝦就已經很好吃。伴碟有一小塊金華火腿,也不是死鹹的那種,伴著蝦吃就有對比的感覺。但就單著吃那蝦已很美味啦!

This dish was so pretty that I could not help but kept staring at it with love. Well back to reality it really is quite pricy for just one prawn, but its jumbo size and its absolutely delicious. texture is amazingly bouncy but nothing like artificial. without doubt the meat was so sweet. such simple cooking style but it just tasted so good. a small piece of perserved ham came with it and the combination of the salty ham and sweet prawn was just something to die for..


 京都肉排 Deep-fried Pork Ribs with Sweet and Sour Sauce



單吃海鮮是不夠的,沖著我那幾天沒啥胃口,就給它點了個酸酸甜甜的菜,好下飯。我不太喜歡吃肉,但卻喜歡吃排骨,皆因可以吃骨。這個也好吃,但沒有其他的特別,畢竟大排檔也弄得很好吃。

I had not been feeling too well those days so I was hoping for something that could make me eat more. I also love sweet and sour stuff but not those dishes you find in china towns, only at the traditional cantonese restaurants would they make the best sweet and sour dishes. I am not a fan of meat but I like to eat meat that comes with bone purely because I love to lick every bit of the yummy sauce. This was good but nothing too special since local eateries at Shum Shui Po can make the perfect dish too!

鮮蟹皇扒露筍 Braised Fresh Asparagus with Fresh Crabmeat and Roes


這個漏單了,等了很久,其他的都吃完這個都不來,連不知情的服務生也奇怪我們在等甚麼。露筍超級甜美及沒有渣;蟹黃就當然是鮮甜啦。我特愛它那並不是肉絲的啖啖蟹肉,超滿足的。我倆很快就清碟了。

The waiter forgot about this dish so we waited for quite some time until it finally made its grant appearance. the asparagus was so fresh and the crab roes, well perfect. we finished this within minutes (two crab lovers)

甜品:紅棗糕 Red Jujube Cake



可能是我吃過最好吃的紅棗糕。不是只有甜,還有那種紅棗皮特有的,唔,藥材味。(我不知怎麼形容,就是不像平常酒家那種只有清甜的紅棗味)軟糯就是必然的,不用說。不愛紅棗的林少也連吃了三塊,因為我剛復元不能吃飽嘛…否則我一定會給它吃光光!!

possibly the best jujube cake I have ever eaten. Not just sugar sweet but also it has the tiny taste of chinese medicine. Soft, Chewy but not sticky. Well if C who dislikes jujube ate three, need I say more?

 
整體來說我很滿意這餐。菜的份量是適合2~4人,所以我們叫的份量是剛好。價錢嘛,大概八百多(多謝林少)。貴,但一年一次,沒辨法。其實他們的小菜都是八十元左右,所以不是吃蟹鉗或蝦球也不會太昂貴。我的朋友四個人叫了蟹鉗及其他小菜也是每人二百多,所以視符你叫甚麼吧。環境舒適,是適合請客的地方。我朋友的爸爸說他們的點心也很好吃,我已經在想何時跟爸媽再來了…

Overall this was satisfying. Portions were small so this is a good place for small parties. The final bill came down to $800 (thanks C). Actaully their normal, common cantonese dishes cost about $80 so if you watch out on the menu it won't cost you a fortune. Four of my friends came once and they only spent $200 each and had some good dishes too. My friend's dad says they do good dim sum to, I wonder when would be the next time I come...
